Activision revealed a new title from a fan-favorite rhythm game franchise, Guitar Hero. However, the image used in the announcement for the new Guitar Hero Mobile has spoiled the excitement for its AI-generated art.
Guitar Hero made its debut for PlayStation in 2005. The game stood out with its functionality of hitting the correct keys at the right moment as they pass through on the guitar’s strings. This way, players would play the song to clear each stage.
Activision’s Guitar Hero became popular soon after its initial release, and many sequels and expansions followed in the last twenty years.
The franchise is now coming back with a new title after years since the last entry, Guitar Hero Live, released in 2015. On February 28th, Activision jinxed the announcement by using an AI-created poster.

Fans’ excitement turned into disappointment when they started noticing the odds in the promotional image. The poster had the wrong colors of note tracks and “multiple colors on the same track,” as pointed out by a user named bennicus in comments under the Instagram post. The user also commented that it “shows how much effort went into this when you can’t even get your own game right.”
Guitar Hero fans now expect less from the upcoming title
Another user named doodle3e said Activision ruined the “fav game with AI slop.” Moreover, many other comments also promised not to purchase the title when it is released.

This isn’t the first time Activision has been criticized for using AI. The studio was previously criticized for using AI to create Call of Duty art. Recently, they’ve openly admitted to using AGI in the game with a disclaimer on Steam.
Despite the AI criticism, the Guitar Hero Mobile announcement was nostalgic for some users.
Guitar Hero Mobile games were previously released for Blackberry mobile devices. The Guitar Hero 3 Mobile gained the most popularity in 2007 by exceeding 2.5 million downloads. Guitar Hero Live received a mixed reception from players due to its average sound track and lack of multiplayer functionality.
