Question 1

Accepted Answer

HMRC said 17,600 individuals declared taxable cryptoasset disposals, reporting £13.8 billion in proceeds and £1.38 billion in total gains.

Question 2

Accepted Answer

The 2024-25 Self Assessment return was the first to include a dedicated section for cryptoasset disposals. Previously crypto was reported within the broader capital gains category, so no separate breakdown was available.

Question 3

Accepted Answer

Under the OECD's Cryptoasset Reporting Framework, HMRC expects to receive provider data in 2027, and from May 31, 2027 it is set to automatically obtain information on UK residents from exchanges in 52 jurisdictions.
