Question 1

Accepted Answer

New York State Police say scammers earn a target's trust, then direct them to a fake website to invest in cryptocurrency or gold bars and coins, and victims can lose their life savings once they enter financial information.

Question 2

Accepted Answer

The State Police advise not sharing any information and not visiting any site the caller names; instead, hang up and call a legitimate investment firm, and if the caller demands financial details, hang up and call 9-1-1.

Question 3

Accepted Answer

The IRS said on July 30 that fraudsters are mailing fake IRS letters with QR codes that send crypto holders to a site mimicking IRS.gov to collect personal data and wallet or exchange credentials; the IRS does not operate such a portal and called it a scam.
