Last week, Elon Musk’s D.O.G.E was eventually granted unrestricted access to the US Treasury’s $6 trillion payment system, in a bid to cut down federal spending.
However, US lawmakers are freaking out. Some say “national security disaster” waiting to happen, while others say it can create cybersecurity risks that America may not be able to handle.
Jerald Lentini, a lawyer representing National Security Counselors, argued that Elon’s aggressive takeover of federal systems could lead to serious legal violations.
But despite the arguments and opposition, Elon isn’t slowing down. He claims D.O.G.E already uncovered major negligence at the Treasury.
Elon said the Treasury officials allowed any and every payment, even to scammers and terrorist-linked orgs. “They literally never denied a payment in their entire careers. Not a single one,” he said.
Elon’s goal with D.O.G.E is to cut down $4 billion in federal spending every day until September.
However, analysts and lawmakers doubt whether Elon could deliver on his promise without making cuts to the very programs Trump swore to protect.
