On 8 October, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced the official launch of the UNICEF cryptocurrency fund.
As of this date, UNICEF will be able to receive donations in several cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum.
We are now able to receive, hold and disburse donations in cryptocurrencies – ether and bitcoin.

Cryptocurrency fund
With the rise of popularity, cryptocurrencies have experienced over the past several years, many charities and organizations have started accepting donations in the form of tokens.
According to UNICEF, all donations gathered through the cryptocurrency fund will be invested in developing open source solutions to better the standard of life for children around the world.
Furthermore, UNICEF declared that all donations will remain in their native tokens, either Bitcoin or Ethereum, and will not be converted to any national currency.
While the cryptocurrency fund was only just announced, the Ethereum foundation has already declared it will be donating a substantial amount of tokens, to support the initial stages of this initiative.
UNICEF France
UNICEF has become one of the pioneer not-for-profit global organizations to accept cryptocurrency donations.
For more than a year now, UNICEF France has been actively promoting cryptocurrency donations and accepting funding in Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Now with the establishment of the cryptocurrency fund, this push for innovative payment methods is going to become global.
Revolutionizing payments and donations should become a priority for all international charities and not-for-profit organizations. The more payment options people have, the higher the chance they will be willing to donate.
While for now, UNICEF has only decided to accept donations in either Bitcoin or Ether, in the future, potential contributors might also have the opportunity to donate in other cryptocurrencies as well.
